MY FAVORITE WEEKEND
One DAY Chyler Leigh is cavorting in a hot tub with Marilyn Manson in a music video, and the next thing you know, she’s cavorting in a hospital with Patrick Dempsey as Dr. Lexie Grey on “Grey’s Anatomy.” This is an actress with range. ABC’s hit series returns Sept. 25, but until then, Leigh is out and about with husband, actor Nathan West, and their kids, Noah (almost 5) and Taelyn (almost 2).
WILD NIGHT: For a special occasion, my husband and I love Saddle Peak Lodge in Calabasas. The most unusual thing I’ve had is the wild boar, cooked three ways: shredded barbecue, like a rib and a braised cut. I know, it sounds funny, “Mmmm, boar!” But it was great.
GARDEN FRESH: On Saturday morning there’s an awesome organic market in Santa Monica, at Arizona and 3rd. It’s pretty much just food, no petting zoo or anything, but the pier is close by, so we go there afterward because my son loves the Ferris wheel. It doesn’t tickle my fancy because I’m not a heights person, but what’s a mother to do?
STRIKING OUT IN GRAY: I’m not a big shopper, but I do like Belle Gray on Ventura in Sherman Oaks. Very pretty women’s clothing; it varies from casual cool to elegant, beautiful dresses. Cool jeans too. In the afternoon, the whole family would go bowling at Pinz in Studio City. My son is better than I am! After that, we’d eat next door at Jerry’s Famous Deli. My husband would get a tuna melt, I’d get a big turkey and avocado, and the kids would get chicken strips and fries
SUNDAY SUNDAY: We always go to church at Oasis Christian Center on Wilshire in L.A. It’s really incredible, very culturally diverse and I dare say a hip, modern, cool church. After church we’d take off for Malibu and go to the Hideaway Cafe off PCH, and it really is hidden. They have eggs Benedict, and the roasted potatoes are awesome. And we love their guavosas, which are guava juice and champagne. . . . Something I’m dying to see is the Body Worlds exhibit at California Science Center. It’s pretty graphic, so they say to go first by yourself and gauge whether it would be OK for your kids.
KID-FRIENDLY SUSHI: For dinner, it would be Kushiyu in Tarzana. They’ve got great sushi and you can bring kids. Ours like edamame, rice and chicken teriyaki. The lotus root is awesome.
