6 on trial in tainted milk case
Trials began for six suspects accused of making and selling the industrial chemical at the center of a tainted milk scandal linked to the deaths of six children and illnesses of 294,000.
The defendants include the owner of a workshop that was allegedly China’s largest source of the chemical, melamine, state news media said. A second man was accused of buying and reselling 230 tons of melamine powder to others.
Four other men were being tried in three separate courts elsewhere. It was not clear what penalties they faced.
