SAVE THE EARTH, MY DEER

Elizabeth McGrath is known for her cast of creepy creatures and macabre monsters, but for “The Incurable Disorder: New Works by Elizabeth McGrath” at Billy Shire Fine Arts in Culver City, the L.A. artist turned her attention to a topic some consider even more scary: the environment. Of course, in signature McGrath style, even an eco-friendly message comes wrapped in plenty of black velvet, fake blood and look-alike taxidermy. Her creations include “Deer House” (pictured), an upholstery-covered two-headed deer with a Victorian-style dollhouse strapped to its back. “I was really inspired by how nature sometimes meets man in a not-so-beautiful way,” she says.
