Dow, EPA fail to reach cleanup deal
The Environmental Protection Agency said it failed to reach a deal with Dow Chemical Co. for the study and interim cleanup of dioxin contamination in the Tittabawassee River system in Michigan.
The EPA said that talks had ended and that it was reviewing its options. The agency had ordered the chemical giant to develop a plan that would show its willingness to design and pay for a comprehensive solution. Last month, a deadline to reach a deal was extended.
Dow Chemical, based in Midland, Mich., did not respond to a message seeking comment.
