Two members of a ring that sent information about sensitive U.S. military technology to China were arrested Wednesday and face deportation.

Fuk Heung Li, 50, and her son, Yui “Billy” Mak, 27, both of Alhambra, pleaded guilty last year to attempted violation of export control laws and were sentenced to probation and 11 months’ time served respectively.

A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman in Los Angeles said they emigrated legally from China but became subject to deportation because of their guilty pleas.

Li is the sister-in-law of Chi Mak, who was convicted last year in a scheme to pass sensitive submarine data to China. He is awaiting sentencing. Yui Mak is his nephew.
