Freshman James Harden scored his team’s first five points of the second overtime and finished with 27, making No. 22 Arizona State’s return to the top 25 for the first time in nearly 13 years a success with a 99-90 victory over California on Thursday night at Berkeley.

Ty Abbott made two three-point baskets in the second extra period.

He finished with 25 points, nine rebounds and five assists to help give the Sun Devils (14-2 overall, 4-0 Pacific 10) their 10th consecutive victory.

Ryan Anderson finished with 32 points and 15 rebounds for the Bears (11-5, 2-3), who got the ball under the Arizona State basket with 4.8 seconds left in the first overtime but couldn’t capitalize when Jerome Randle missed a three-point shot at the buzzer.

No. 8 Washington State 69, Oregon State 46 -- The Cougars (15-1, 3-1), coming off their only loss of the season at UCLA, broke the game open at the start of the second half at Pullman, Wash., outscoring the Beavers, 20-4, during the first nine minutes.

Oregon State (6-11, 0-5) has lost seven consecutive games. The Beavers shot 41% from the field and committed 15 turnovers against the nation’s top defense, which is allowing only 52 points a game.

Washington 78, Oregon 70 -- Jon Brockman scored 21 points and had 16 rebounds at Seattle to lead the Huskies to their first conference win of the season.

Brockman had his conference-leading 11th double-double of the season for Washington (10-7, 1-3), one more than the Ducks’ Maarty Luenen.

Luenen scored 22 points to go with his six rebounds for the Ducks (12-5, 3-2).

Stanford 56, Arizona 52 -- Brook Lopez scored 19 points, including a tiebreaking jumper with 1:55 left at Stanford that helped the Cardinal (14-3, 3-2) end a six-game losing streak to the Wildcats.

Jordan Hill then missed a short shot at the other end for Arizona (11-6, 1-3).
