Film Versus Video

I want to take issue with the statement, referring to the use of video for recording weddings: “ . . . and it can start to fade after a dozen years” (“Meet the Experts,” May 4). In fact, it is the color dyes in film that fade with time. This has always been a problem and is the reason why many Hollywood movies have had to be “restored.” A recorded digital video image is essentially a numerical record of all the values in the scene and will re-create the same image as long as the record remains intact.
