Air force chief quits over deaths
From Times Wire Reports
The head of the Swiss air force has resigned after at least four airmen were killed in a whitewater boating accident during a military exercise.
Two inflatable rafts overturned June 12 on the Kander River in central Switzerland. One airman is still missing. Five airmen were injured, two of them seriously.
The Swiss Defense Department said the air force commandant, Walter Knutti, a three-star general, would step down immediately because of irregularities in the promotion of the commander who organized the exercise.
