Unpaid bill leads to Karachi outage
From Times Wire Reports
Pakistan’s commercial capital, Karachi, suffered a major power outage when the country’s main power utility cut supply because the city’s power company had not paid its bills, an official said.
Karachi is Pakistan’s biggest city, with a population of more than 13 million.
A spokesman for Pakistan Electric Power Co., which manages the main state power utility, said Karachi Electric Supply Co. owed $554 million and had not replied to letters seeking payment.
The local utility said power had been partly restored.
