Radio broadcaster covered the Pentagon

Ivan Scott, 78, a broadcaster whose reports on the Pentagon were heard on a number of stations across the country including KNX-AM (1070) news radio and KABC-AM (790) in Los Angeles, died March 10 of a brain tumor at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C.

Scott’s distinctive baritone voice was heard for more than 20 years as a military-affairs and national-security correspondent. He had been an anchor for ABC and Mutual radio.

A native of Washington, Scott graduated from Princeton University.

He served in the Air Force and Merchant Marine during the Korean War.

Before his broadcasting career, Scott served as an assistant chief of information for the Navy and later as director of communications for the Federal Transit Administration. He was also administrator of the Interior Department’s “Johnny Horizon” environmental program and director of public and congressional affairs for the Navy’s Military Sealift Command.
