Teen killed by alleged gangster

A teenager was shot to death by a suspected gang member, authorities said.

Police found 16-year-old Carlos Celis of Ontario lying on the sidewalk in the 500 block of North Virginia Avenue on Thursday evening. He had been shot once in the torso. An ambulance took him to San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators were directed to an apartment in the 400 block of North Parkside Drive, where they detained a suspected gang member, who is in his 20s. The name of the suspect, whose tattoos suggest he is in a gang, is being withheld pending further investigation, authorities said. No weapon was found.

“We believe it was a random shooting,” said Dereck Anthony of the Ontario police. “The victim and suspect do not know each other, and the victim had no gang affiliation.”
