Suicide bomber kills U.S. soldier, 20 civilians

A suicide car bomber struck a U.S. military convoy passing through a crowded market in eastern Afghanistan today, killing at least 20 civilians and an American soldier and wounding 74 civilians, U.S. and Afghan officials said.
The attack was in the Bati Kot district of Nangarhar province.
An explosion Wednesday in southern Afghanistan killed two NATO soldiers, the alliance said. It did not give their nationalities.
Also on Wednesday, a suicide bomber driving an oil tanker detonated explosives outside a government office in Kandahar, killing at least six people and wounding 42, authorities said.
