The Great White Way is going green.
New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg -- with the help of green friends such as “Wicked” witch Elphaba -- launched the “Broadway Goes Green” initiative Tuesday. It includes plans to recycle stage sets and wash costumes in cold water.
Ten Broadway theaters already have replaced about 10,000 bulbs with more energy-efficient ones; the rest have vowed to make the switch within 12 months. The initiative is part of the mayor’s PlanNYC goal to reduce the city’s carbon footprint 30% by 2030.
