Ted Koppel for ‘Meet the Press’
It must be fate: NBC looking for a host for “Meet the Press” and Ted Koppel parting ways with the Discovery Channel [“Who’s Meeting NBC’s ‘Press’?” by Matea Gold, Nov. 26]. In the ‘70s, Koppel shot ABC’s “Nightline” to the upper stratosphere, never allowing a guest to evade a question.
And though he has expressed no interest in the grind of a weekly job, NBC should make every effort to convince him otherwise. He might not fit the network’s demographic target, but I’ll bet we seniors make up a significant percentage of the “Press” viewing audience.
Tim Russert is almost impossible to replace, but Koppel would be a worthy successor.
