Re “Papers’ DVD ad inserts rile swing states,” Sept. 28

The wide distribution of the movie “Obsession: Radical Islam’s War against the West” further shows that our democracy has become a pawn of special-interest groups.

How does a nonprofit organization such as the Clarion Fund send out a movie, for free, to 28 million people in the swing states? A simple calculation reveals that the cost of this “free” message is in the millions itself.

Who is paying for this, and why now, a few weeks before the elections?

If fear-mongering and the defeat of Barack Obama are the objective, then perhaps this is one more move that the Republicans can be happy about.

Let’s not forget: Kids like mine, who were reared as mainstream American Muslims, are routinely being labeled as terrorists and are gradually being discriminated against.

This insidiousness makes a sham of our democracy.
