An Ontario man has been sentenced to life in prison for attacking a Mount Baldy hiker with a Samurai sword and nearly severing his arm.

Wesley Brockway got life with the chance of parole Wednesday from a Pomona judge.

The 27-year-old was convicted last month of attempted murder and other crimes for the attack in September 2007 in the San Gabriel Mountains. His older brother, Eric, was earlier convicted of misdemeanor battery and served six months.

Authorities say they attacked an acquaintance, David Gregory, with a sword and pepper spray because he painted over graffiti the brothers had left on a trail.
