Assassination suspect may walk
A court overturned the conviction of a former Colombian justice minister accused of masterminding the 1989 assassination of presidential candidate and anti-drug cartel crusader Luis Carlos Galan.
The tribunal found there was insufficient evidence to convict Alberto Santofimio Botero and ordered that he be released, said Jesael Giraldo, spokesman for the Cundinamarca state court. It was unclear when Santofimio would be freed.
Prosecutors said they would appeal.
Santofimio was sentenced to 24 years in October 2007 after a trial that heard testimony from three former presidents.
