Detroit’s auto wreck

Re “Blase about the Big Three,” Opinion, April 1

Tim Rutten’s column is insulting.

He concludes that Angelenos’ lack of interest in the American auto companies and their workers “says something about the people we’ve become -- something that does us no credit.”

I object to his trying to incriminate me for the disaster in Detroit. He is welcome to feel as guilty as he likes, but he cannot include me in his pity party. This mess occurred over 40 years and was made possible by a greedy and incompetent management and a greedy and combative union.

Mr. Rutten, we the American public didn’t undo the Big Three. They did it to themselves. They are completely bankrupt by any definition of the word, but politics will not permit that solution. Instead, the taxpayers will support them.
