Re “King for sale,” Opinion, April 22

I have enjoyed your paper for decades. Only lately have I read such false interpretations of commonly known facts.

On Sept. 30, 1963, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. sent a copy of his “I Have a Dream” speech to the copyright office and applied for copyright protection. That same year, he filed a lawsuit against Mister Maestro Inc. and 20th Century Fox Record Corp. for copyright infringement after they sold recordings of the speech.

King’s actions have always shown that he intended for his wife and children to profit from his works.

To even think that King did not wish for his children to profit from and control his life’s work is to say that he was a selfish, ignorant father. I suppose Jonathan Turley thinks Obama should leave his daughters penniless when he dies.
