Mild weather has helped firefighters gain ground on a growing fire in Yosemite National Park.

Park spokeswoman Vickie Mates says evacuations were still in place on Sunday for about 50 homes in the Foresta and Old El Portal communities.

The fire started Wednesday after a prescribed burn crossed containment lines.

On Sunday the blaze was 50% contained and had burned about seven square miles.

Mates says the fire was still moving into wilderness areas closer to Tioga Road. She expects the road will be closed this evening with traffic restrictions during the day.
