Brotherly love is fine, but this is a bit much

Share

Dear Amy: My daughter has a boyfriend of 17 who still sleeps in the same bed with his 19-year-old sister, on occasion.

He also sits in the bathroom and talks with her while she is in the shower.

Is it just me, or is this a tad strange? The sister is also very controlling and possessive.

Wondering Mom

Dear Mom: It isn’t just you. This is a tad strange.

I’d start by asking how she knows about these habits. Is this hearsay, or does she have personal knowledge of it?

Listen to her answers, educate her about healthy sibling boundaries and urge her to heed her better instincts.

Dear Amy: My wife has smoked for more than 40 years. Both of our daughters are pregnant with our first grandchildren.

About four months ago my daughters asked my wife to quit smoking, but she hasn’t. Both said they will not let her handle the babies if she has smoked. Can you offer any advice?

Charlie

Dear Charlie: There are many smoking cessation programs on the market. Your wife should work with her physician to find one appropriate for her.
