Thank you to Robert Lloyd for his review of “The Polio Crusade” [“A Fearful Disease and How It Was Stopped,” Feb. 2]. Those years proved that terror can be conquered by both national unity and the indomitable spirit of the American family.

While the U.S. is grasping to deal with our current economic ills, these problems are all manmade and caused by ineptness, corruption, wanton greed and lack of governmental oversight.

We do not have to fear that our kids will wake up paralyzed or not wake up at all, or see signs posted “Children not allowed in this town.” And we have to remember, sadly, that in other parts of the world polio still exists. The Oscar-nominated “The Final Inch” goes into detail.
