Deputies’ bar should be high

Re “A lower bar for new deputies,” Feb. 20

What happened to a higher bar of performance for those serving in law enforcement? I find it unnerving that unqualified individuals were hired, trained, issued firearms and sworn in as officers of the law.

Of course they will abuse the authority entrusted to them. The actions that should have disqualified them from being hired are proof of their lack of regard for that higher standard of performance that the public deserves.
