Re “A Crafty ‘Witch,’ ” by Glenn Whipp, July 11: “The Blair Witch Project” was a fluke. It showed that anyone -- and I mean anyone -- can make a movie. No story, no acting, no production values. Just hype and great marketing.

How sad that this so-called movie made as much money as it did while Francis Coppola’s “Tetro,” a true independent film, is gone from theaters after only four weeks.

If the influence of “Blair Witch” is the future of American filmmaking, God help us all.
