Re “Execs earn big money at drug treatment center,” June 11

You did a good job describing how Albert Senella and Scott Taylor have built a wonderful agency from humble beginnings. What I found missing was mention of the many programs that help not just substance users but the uninsured and under-served in our community.

As to the salaries paid to the top talent, I would say that their hard work and dedication have paid off. To be able to positively touch so many lives -- possibly they are underpaid.

In 1999, a 17-year-old girl was admitted to Tarzana Treatment Centers outpatient program in Lancaster. She had agreed to participate to get her parents off her back. While in treatment, this girl realized she did suffer from the life-threatening disease of addiction and successfully completed the program. In August, this young woman will celebrate her 10th year of recovery. She is married to a law enforcement officer, and their three beautiful children were born drug-free.

In light of the revelations that L.A. County taxpayers are footing much of the bill for obscene executive payments at a nonprofit drug-treatment center in Tarzana, and in view of the many ill-advised financial blunders perpetrated by the City Council, it seems that both entities are in need of an inspector general to weed out these boondoggles.
