Re: “In limbo over the cha-cha,” Column, June 13

Sandy Banks has written stories that make me cry and stories that make me laugh. She also has written articles that make me want to smack someone for being so foolish.

This article was one of those. Let’s equate a school to a small business. If my department won an award that brought in $5,000, I would expect a thank-you from my boss. I think the principal showed poor management.

I attended my grandson’s high school graduation recently, and the support given by all the school staff and parents was gratifying. With our high dropout rate, anything teachers, parents and school administrators can do to support students is not an option -- it is a necessity.

It was surprising to see our middle-school play reviewed on the second page of The Times, a spot not offered to most professional productions. Although it’s always nice to have one’s school recognized, there are some questionable points that we, the faculty and staff, want to address.

There is no doubt that our faculty has a great sense of humor -- just not at the expense of our principal. In this school, Michael Bennett is highly respected, not only for his superb leadership and team-building skills but for his sense of humor as well.

Why not aim at high-level sources for your information and quotations rather than parents who do not have their facts straight? Had you investigated the history of the dance situation, you would find there is one. We believe you wrote a rather inflammatory article without totally doing your homework.
