Re “Condoms no answer to AIDS, pope says,” March 18
I must take issue with Pope Benedict XVI’s negative view of the use of condoms and safe sex in the prevention of HIV/AIDS. The Roman Catholic Church should give financial aid and moral support to groups that promote safe sex and the distribution of condoms.
Condoms will save millions of lives by preventing the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. Abstinence is honorable but is not a realistic solution for a massive world health problem that is killing millions of people every year.
Benedict should come out of the Middle Ages and help defeat this terrible disease.
