British researchers have found that kisspeptin can stimulate the release of reproductive hormones in infertile women, which may help restore fertility.
Researchers injected the protein into five infertile women and gave another five a placebo. Kisspeptin increased levels of luteinizing hormone 48-fold and levels of follicle-stimulating hormone 16-fold. Both hormones are essential for reproduction. The results were reported Monday at a Society for Endocrinology BES meeting in Great Britain.
