NATIONAL BRIEFING / ARIZONA
Times Wire Reports
Arizona Atty. Gen. Terry Goddard moved late Friday to secure a federal court order to prevent the impending closure of the Tucson Citizen newspaper.
Gannett Co., which owns the 138-year-old Citizen, had announced that the financially troubled newspaper would print its final edition today.
Under a joint operating agreement, the Citizen published in the afternoon, and the Arizona Daily Star published mornings. Goddard contends the Citizen’s closure would violate the congressionally approved operating agreement.
