Don’t try to send readers to website

Re: “Grim news for U.S. papers,” Oct. 27:

Why do newspapers insist on pushing their current subscribers away? Many things that “paper” readers value are discontinued or reduced because the information can be accessed online.

This is stupid for at least two reasons.

First, it assumes readers would rather go to the trouble of logging on than conveniently glancing at a couple of favorite stocks or the weather in the Sierra.

Second, it assumes they will log on to the newspaper’s website instead of those robust sites specializing in the desired topics.

Hello! To keep readers, keep the things that make paper media attractive to them, even though, yes, most all of them have a computer.
