Emulex Corp., which in July rejected a hostile takeover attempt by Broadcom Corp., sued the rival chip maker, accusing it of malicious anti-competitive conduct.

Broadcom tried a hostile takeover of Emulex that sought to disrupt the marketplace and frustrate, delay and prevent the acceptance of Emulex’s product, the company said in federal court in Santa Ana. It accuses Broadcom of violating antitrust laws as well as of libel and slander.

Broadcom of Irvine, after failing to buy Emulex, sued the Costa Mesa company in September, alleging infringement of 10 patents.
