The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistan and Iraq or who died at a U.S. military hospital of their injuries:

Scott A. Andrews, 21, of Fall River, Mass.; specialist, Army. Andrews died Monday at Forward Operating Base Lagman in southern Afghanistan’s Zabol province, on the Pakistani border, after insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 618th Engineer Support Company, 27th Engineer Battalion, 20th Engineers Brigade at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Robert N. Barton, 35, of Roxie, Miss.; first sergeant, Army. Barton was among five soldiers killed June 7 when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle in the Dangam district of eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Nathan W. Cox, 27, of Fremont, Calif.; specialist, Army. Cox died June 16 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, of injuries suffered June 14 when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire at a forward operating base in the Khogyani district of eastern Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Special Troops Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Kevin A. Cueto, 23, of San Jose; corporal, Marine Corps. Cueto was killed Tuesday when a roadside bomb exploded near him while he was on foot patrol in southern Afghanistan’s Helmand province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Jacob P. Dohrenwend, 20, of Milford, Ohio; specialist, Army. Dohrenwend died of noncombat-related injuries Monday in Balad, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division at Ft. Riley, Kan.

Joshua R. Dumaw, 23, of Spokane Valley, Wash.; corporal, Marine Corps. Dumaw was killed Tuesday when he stepped on an improvised explosive device in southern Afghanistan’s Nimruz province, which borders Iran and Pakistan. He was assigned to the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at the Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point, N.C.

Gunnar R. Hotchkin, 31, of Naperville, Ill.; private first class, Army. Hotchkin was one of two soldiers killed June 16 when their armored vehicle struck a roadside bomb and overturned in the Baghi Shirkat district of northeast Afghanistan’s Kunduz province, which borders Tajikistan. He was assigned to the 161st Engineer Support Company, 27th Engineer Battalion (Combat) (Airborne), 20th Engineer Brigade, 18th Airborne Corps at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

James P. Hunter, 25, of South Amherst, Ohio; staff sergeant, Army. Hunter was one of two soldiers killed June 18 when an improvised explosive device detonated near them while they were on foot patrol in the Zhari district of southern Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Joseph D. Johnson, 24, of Flint, Mich.; specialist, Army. Johnson was one of two soldiers killed June 16 when their armored vehicle struck a roadside bomb and overturned in the Baghi Shirkat district of northeast Afghanistan’s Kunduz province, which borders Tajikistan. He was assigned to the 161st Engineer Support Company, 27th Engineer Battalion (Combat) (Airborne), 20th Engineer Brigade, 18th Airborne Corps at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Anthony T. Justesen, 22, of Wilsonville, Ore.; private first class, Army. Justesen was killed Wednesday when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device in Ganjkin Village in the Pusht Rod district of western Afghanistan’s Farah province, on the Iranian border. He was assigned to Troop B, 4th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Andrew R. Looney, 22, of Owasso, Okla.; specialist, Army. Looney was one of two soldiers killed Monday by a suicide bomber at a traffic control point in Lar Sholtan Village in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province, on the Pakistani border. They were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Russell E. Madden, 29, of Dayton, Ky.; private first class, Army. Madden was killed Wednesday in a rocket attack on his convoy vehicle in the Charkh district of eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team at Conn Barracks, Germany.

David T. Miller, 19, of Wilton, N.Y.; private first class, Army. Miller was one of two soldiers killed Monday by a suicide bomber at a traffic control point in Lar Sholtan Village in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province, on the Pakistani border. They were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Benjamin J. Park, 25, of Fairfax Station, Va.; private first class, Army. Park was one of two soldiers killed June 18 when an improvised explosive device detonated near them while they were on foot patrol in the Zhari district of southern Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to Company B, 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Claudio Patino IV, 22, of Yorba Linda, Calif.; corporal, Marine Corps. Patino died Tuesday while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Timothy G. Serwinowski, 21, of North Tonawanda, N.Y.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Serwinowski was killed by a sniper Monday in southern Afghanistan’s Helmand province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Eddie Turner, 41, of Fort Belvoir, Va.; first sergeant, Army. Turner died of noncombat-related injuries Tuesday at Camp Clark in eastern Afghanistan’s Khowst province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 626th Brigade Support Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.
