KCBS’ Johnny Mountain to retire
Johnny Mountain, the veteran weatherman with one of the most recognizable faces -- and names -- in local TV news, is retiring from KCBS Channel 2, officials are expected to announce Monday.
Suzanne Rico, the station’s early-morning co-anchor, is also leaving.
The departure of Mountain, 65, ends his 32-year stint in local television. He had spent 27 years at KABC Channel 7 before joining KCBS in May 2005.
“I have been blessed to have had such a wonderful run on Los Angeles television,” Mountain said in a statement.
Jackie Johnson and Josh Rubenstein, who report weather for KCBS and its sister station KCAL Channel 9, will provide forecasts until Mountain’s successor is named.
Station insiders said several news staffers were let go Friday in what is being called a “restructuring” move.
They said most of those staffers are expected to be replaced.
