Van Morrison Fifty years into his career, the legendary (and legendarily cantankerous) Irish songsmith makes his debut at the Greek Theatre. From such pop charting classics as “Gloria” and “Brown Eyed Girl” to his experimental masterpiece LP “Astral Weeks,” Van the Man has firmly cemented his place in rock ‘n’ roll history, and continues to play thrilling live shows for his devoted fans. Greek Theatre. 2700 N. Vermont. 8:15 pm. $65-$350. (323) 665-5857. www.greektheatrela.com.

Belle & Sebastian Glasgow, Scotland’s finest suppliers of barbed twee-pop return as relevant as ever on the new album “Write About Love.” They take the title to heart over 11 winsome songs as sumptuous and catchy to the ear as they are needling and astutely observed of the heart. Hollywood Forever Cemetery, 6000 Santa Monica Blvd., Hollywood. 9:30 p.m. Alas, it’s sold out. https://www.hollywoodforever.com.

BOOKS

Sara Marcus The history and spirit of the Riot Grrrl movement has been hard for many writers to grasp — mainstream media wrote too simplistically about it while many in the scene were perhaps too close to offer critical distance. Marcus, a writer and musician living in Brooklyn, offers “Girls to the Front,” a deeply researched account — from the first raging shows put on in basements by Bikini Kill to the current manifestations of feminist values in the music community, including Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls and the ongoing Ladyfest concert series. At this reading, Marcus will be joined by musical guests Dunes and Anna Oxygen. Skylight Books, 1818 N. Vermont Ave. (323) 660-1175. 7:30 p.m. https://www.skylightbooks.com
