Workout clothes matter.

Remember the high-tech swimsuits at the 2008 Beijing Olympics that made swimmers look more like luge competitors? They were made of specially developed materials that boosted buoyancy and reduced friction. Records were broken and medals were won, but the swimming world’s governing body ultimately imposed a ban on the super-sleek garb that went into effect this year.

No such clothing obstacles exist for, say, amateur runners who want to improve their strength and abilities in the next 10K or half-marathon. Chicago’s WGN-TV reports on the latest training togs that take their cue from the medical world in “Performance enhancing pants.
