See those creeping gray hairs? Beware of supplements that promise to stop them

Plucking out hairs won’t keep the gray ones at bay. Neither will natural supplements with clever marketing pitches.

Going gray has more to do with your genes than supplements such as Melancor and Reminex that promise “no more gray!,” Julie Deardorff reports in the Chicago Tribune’s Julie’s Health Club blog. And really, your hair isn’t turning a different color, it’s just losing melanin, which accounts for the gray and white strands.

While men tend to go gray earlier, women seem more concerned with doing something about it –- or not, reports the Los Angeles Times in “The brighter side of gray.” For those on board with a “gray-hair lifestyle,” the Going Gray blog offers some tips on how to cope with the annoying refrain: “Why don’t you dye your hair?”
