Jurors in Barry Bonds trial head home for weekend

Jurors in the Barry Bonds federal perjury trial went home for the weekend Friday after asking for transcripts of a surreptitious recording of Bonds’ personal trainer discussing steroid injections and the testimony of a witness who said she saw the trainer inject Bonds.

U.S. District Judge Susan Illston brought jurors back into the courtroom to replay parts of the recording of Greg Anderson, Bonds’ trainer, discussing his method for injecting steroids.

Steve Hoskins, a friend and employee of Bonds, made the recording in 2003 around the time he and Bonds had a falling out over money. Hoskins used Bonds’ name in asking about injection techniques. Anderson did not name Bonds in his replies, but also did not correct Hoskins. Jurors were told testimony by Kathy Hoskins, Steve’s sister, would be read to them onday. Kathy Hoskins, who shopped and packed for Bonds, testified that she saw Anderson inject him in the navel in 2002.

The jury of eight women and four men began deliberating at 8:30 a.m. Friday and broke about 3:30 p.m. Deliberations are scheduled to resume Monday morning.

Bonds is charged with lying to grand jury in 2003 when he testified that he had not knowingly used performance-enhancing drugs and had never been injected by Anderson.
