Charity offers coffee with Apple CEO Tim Cook to highest bidder
If only Apple’s stock were rising as fast as that of CEO Tim Cook.
On Wednesday, the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights announced it was auctioning off the chance to have coffee with Cook as part of a fundraiser that included a number of other celebrities.
The bidding for face time with Cook was valued at $50,000, but by late Wednesday night he had received 48 bids, with the highest at $160,000.

That meant Cook was trouncing a bunch of nobodies, like director Francis Ford Coppola, whose offer of lunch with him and his Napa winemaker had drawn only 1 bid for $4,000. The chance to act in a scene with Chris Hemsworth (star of the Thor movies) in a Michael Mann film had 1 bid for $2,500. The chance to meet Alec Baldwin? Two bids with $1,750 winning at the moment.
Oh, and remember Robert “Are you lookin’ at me?” DeNiro? Two bids with $1,750 leading.
From there, it’s just a long list of also-rans and B-listers like Jay Leno, quarterback Peyton Manning, music producer Quincy Jones and comedian Robin Williams--a bunch of folks who can only hope that one day a few minutes of their precious time will be as coveted as that of the CEO of Apple.
