There was much shock in the “Late Show With David Letterman” audience as Hanks revealed he has Type 2 diabetes. His diagnosis came with good and bad news: While the malady can virtually disappear, the 57-year-old would need to slim down considerably to do so. “My doctor said, ‘Look, if you can weigh as much as you weighed in high school, you’ll essentially be completely healthy,’” Hanks said. “I said to her, ‘Well, I’m going to have Type 2 diabetes, because there’s no way I can weigh as much as I did in high school.’” Hanks’ goal would be “96 pounds.” (Jon Furniss / Invision for BFI / Associated Press)
“New York wasn’t everything I thought it would be,” she wrote for Harper’s Bazaar magazine. “It did not welcome me with open arms. The first year, I was held up at gunpoint. Raped on the roof of a building I was dragged up to with a knife in my back, and had my apartment broken into three times. I don’t know why; I had nothing of value after they took my radio the first time.” (Chris Pizzello / Invision / Associated Press)
The Jenners have been living separately for a year but say that a divorce is nowhere in sight. “We will always have much love and respect for each other,” the two said in a joint statement. “Even though we are separated, we will always remain best friends and, as always, our family will remain our No. 1 priority.” While Mrs. Jenner harbors no regrets about living alone in her Malibu home, she revealed that she regrets divorcing first husband Robert Kardashian. The Kardashian gave insight about her relationship with the NBA basketball player since his arrest, addressing media speculation about a possible divorce, cheating and his drug use. “I do love Lamar with every ounce of who I am, but it’s really scary when someone’s in such a deep lull and you know they’re relying on you to get them out and you’re trying, and you’re trying, and you’re trying and nothing’s really working,” she said on camera in an episode of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.” (Evan Agostini / Associated Press)
Are we the only ones who wonder where Swift keeps all of her trophies? The Nashville Songwriter’s Assn. will honor the guitar-toting songstress Sunday with songwriter-artist of the year award No. 6. Swift’s newest accolade pushes her past five-time winners Vince Gill and Alan Jackson. (Michelle Siu / Associated Press)
Somers is not afraid to flaunt what she’s got, privately and publicly. The actress revealed the extremely healthy sex life she shares with husband Alan Hamel (she does it twice a day, people) while promoting her new book, “I’m Too Young for This.” The 66-year-old certainly proved Miley Cyrus, who proclaimed during an interview that people over 40 “don’t have sex anymore,” very, very wrong. The Chi-city rapper and late-night show host settled their media scuffle with Kanye’s lengthy appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” The interview marks a peaceful end to a feud that claimed Twitter and public television as war zones after Kimmel mocked West on his show earlier this month. Contrary to what many thought, the spat was not one of Kimmels’ hoaxes (e.g. “twerking girl on fire.”) (Charles Sykes / Associated Press)
