The singer -- whom we all know for his modesty, after all -- finally signed up for the social media platform in July and was so surprised and heartwarmed by how many fans were so eager to follow his rapid-fire 140-character thoughts on everything from the “Social Network” movie trailer to his latest purchases and his hatred for stickers on laptops and half-empty water bottles. From “American Idol” to Amanda Bynes, it’s been on whirlwind week.
“Project Runway’s” budding designers would be lost without mentor Tim Gunn, especially this season, when the show is looking to shake things up. Not only are there 17 designers (up from 16), but the would-be contestants are told they still have to complete the audition process by completing a look using a garment out of a fellow designer’s suitcase. The newbies struggle (one outfit is declared fit for a “pole dancer from Dubai” by Michael Kors) and the judges threaten to boot several from the bottom six. One place the Obamas are reportedly not going to be this weekend is Rhinebeck, N.Y. But plenty of other Democrats will be. Five hundred people are reportedly invited to the nuptial of Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky on Saturday at Astor Courts, which is in that town. The wedding is expected to cost as much as $5 million, but they might have been able to skimp a bit when it came to the band. Rumor has it that Bill Clinton plans to play his saxophone. The paparazzi hanging around the Hollywood clubs are going to have to wait a bit longer for a glimpse of our fair-skinned party girl. The court ruling is that she’ll have to go straight to rehab after her jail sentence is up, although her must-be-exhausted-by-now attorney Shawn Chapman Holley says she’ll be asking for a bit of transition time. After much speculation, Daniel Craig officially confirmed that he is taking one of the lead roles in director David Fincher’s American remake of the hit Swedish thriller “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.” Considering Craig’s inarguable “rightness” for the role and his physical similarity to the Swedish actor who portrayed him makes one wonder if Craig ever really had much of a choice. It seems like just yesterday that Amanda Bynes was Tweeting about going into retirement. In reality, it was more like a month ago (June 19), but it turns out she’s had a change of heart.
