Quick Takes: Israeli museum expands

Israel’s main modern art museum is unveiling a striking new wing Wednesday that provides a permanent home for hundreds of works by Israeli artists, a space lacking until now.

The $55-million addition doubles the Tel Aviv Museum of Art’s previous space. Fresh, airy and modern, the wing is set in a five-floor, 195,000-square-foot triangular structure with a concrete exterior.

The centerpiece is an 87-foot-tall atrium, where the walls of the 10 new galleries subtly bend and groove, creating a spiraling effect over different levels. A glass ceiling sends light splashing down.

‘Most Wanted’ returns to TV

Bad guys, look out! John Walsh will be back on the air next month with weekly editions of “America’s Most Wanted.”

The crime-fighting series will return for its 25th season on Dec. 2 on Lifetime. The cable channel has ordered 20 weekly hourlong episodes.

Walsh remains the host of the criminal roundup, which since 1988 has helped bring almost 1,200 fugitives to justice.

Until June, “America’s Most Wanted” had been a fixture on the Fox network. But last spring Fox announced it was axing the series because of high production costs. Lifetime picked it up in September but didn’t announce a premiere date at the time.

Caro’s next LBJ book due in May

The fourth of Robert A. Caro’s Lyndon Johnson books, continuing one of the most acclaimed and debated biographical series in memory, is coming in May.

And a fifth volume is now planned for what Caro had intended to be a three-, then four-part story on the man who became president when John F. Kennedy was assassinated.

“The Passage of Power” will focus on the years 1958-64, from the time he began seeking the presidency, through his years as vice president under Kennedy, and to Johnson’s becoming president after JFK’s assassination.

Caro expects the book to run about 700 pages, modest by his standards. His previous book, “Master of the Senate,” topped 1,100 pages.

Seinfeld to guest co-host ‘Live!’

Regis Philbin, we hardly knew ye — but the show (minus you) must go on. And so ABC announced Tuesday that comedian Jerry Seinfeld will serve as the first guest co-host on “Live! With Kelly.”

The morning show’s next chapter sans Philbin will kick off Nov. 21. Host Kelly Ripa, who joined the long-running show in 2001 as Kathie Lee Gifford’s replacement, will be accompanied by Seinfeld for the first few episodes (Nov. 21-23).

Philbin announced his retirement from the talk show at the start of this season. His last day will be Nov. 18. The show will take on the temporary title “Live! With Kelly” until a permanent co-host is named.

Among the guests stopping by to join Ripa and Seinfeld are actor Jason Segel, Miss Piggy, Kim Cattrall and Howie Mandel.

Vereshchagin tops $3.1 million

A giant painting by Russian artist Vasili Vasilievich Vereshchagin fetched more than $3.1 million at auction Tuesday in New York City.

“Pearl Mosque at Delhi” is 13 feet high by 16 feet wide. Painted between 1876 and 1879, it shows men kneeling at an Indian mosque.

The work was auctioned by Sotheby’s on behalf of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, which said it would use the proceeds to benefit its acquisition fund.

Kim Kardashian disputes reports

A day after filing for divorce to end her 72-day-old marriage, reality TV star Kim Kardashian on Tuesday dismissed reports that she profited from her televised wedding to basketball player Kris Humphries.

“These reports are simply not true and it makes me so sad to have to even clarify this,” Kardashian, 31, said in a message posted on her website. She said she would be donating the money for all the gifts to the Dream Foundation.

Deschanel splits with husband

Actress and singer Zooey Deschanel and her husband, singer Ben Gibbard of the rock band Death Cab for Cutie, are breaking up.

Deschanel’s publicist, Lauren Auslander, confirmed Tuesday the couple has separated after two years of marriage.

Deschanel’s career is on a high note with the success of her Fox sitcom “New Girl.”
