Got a problem? Odds against you? Call Denzel Washington.

The first trailer for the Oscar-winning actor’s upcoming action thriller “The Equalizer,” based on the 1980s TV series, has hit the Web, and it shows Washington back in butt-kicking mode. You can watch the trailer above.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua (“Olympus Has Fallen”) from a script by Richard Wenk (“The Expendables 2”), “The Equalizer” stars Washington as McCall, a disillusioned former black-ops agent looking to put his dark past behind him. Alas, a chance encounter with Teri (Chloe Grace Moretz), a young woman in a diner, has fateful repercussions.

“What’s your book about?” she asks.

“It is about a guy who’s a knight in shining armor, except he lives in a world where knights don’t exist anymore,” McCall answers.

When McCall sees Teri being mistreated by a group of gangsters, he can’t stand idly by, but his bloody rescue mission soon brings the fury of the Russian mafia against him. Violence, you can be sure, ensues.

Washington, 59, is an old pro when it comes to character-driven thrillers, and his previous outing with Fuqua, 2001’s “Training Day,” won him the Oscar for best actor.

Set for release Sept. 26 from Columbia Pictures, “The Equalizer” also stars Marton Csokas, David Harbour, Bill Pullman and Melissa Leo.
