Around the Clubs: Cityfox, Lotic and more this weekend

Share

Cityfox has become that rare thing in New York -- a large-scale new club music institution that brings underground music to the surface. The day-and-night party makes its inaugural L.A. stop on Saturday, and features a noteworthy cast of challenging but still crowd-minded DJ’s: Berlin’s Dixon, Adriatique, Bedouin, the longtime Standard Rooftop crew Droog and DJs from the rowdy Desert Hearts gang. It goes from lunchtime to (almost) breakfast the next day, so the $60 door price is a little more understandable.

Beforehand, the ravenously experimental producer (and favored Bjork remixer) Lotic headlines Gag, a new night of queer-centric hip-hop and beat music produced by Fine Time at the Sisterhood venue in Hollywood. Anna Lunoe plays upbeat modern house at Sound, Chris Liebling goes dark and deep at 613, while the elusive SOPHIE brings pop-art deconstructions to Belasco with Classixx.

Later on Saturday, Moodymann and Marques Wyatt lead the charge for the deep-house revival at 613, while Monty Luke and Jenilove go a bit wider in influence in the basement of the newly-revamped 740 in DTLA.

On Sunday, at Long Beach’s Belmont Pier, Anton Tumas and Goldcap go back to back for an eight-hour set at this intriguing venue. What better spot to await the return of Groovecruise, the longstanding rave-on-a-boat that also sets sail this weekend with Guy Gerber and Paul Oakenfold (it departs Friday, if you’re still looking to hop aboard).
