Kanye West and Kim Kardashian
Parents: Kanye West and Kim Kardashian

When the pregnant reality TV starlet Kim Kardashian appeared on the “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” in March 2013, the fashionista laughed off reports that her “Yeezus” rapper beau really wanted to name their baby “North.” She said it was out of the question and instead joked that she was fond of the name “Easton.” Get it? As in, “Easton West.” But soon after the baby girl’s premature birth on June 15, 2013, the child’s birth certificate revealed that her name was indeed North. Her nickname is said to be Nori, the Japanese word for seaweed. Most reports indicated that they would be giving the baby girl a name that began with a K and others joked that she would be named Knorth.

Perhaps her favorite film will be Alfred Hitchcock’s 1959 thriller “North by Northwest.” Not very subtle, we know, but hey, subtlety has never been this power couple’s strong suit.  (Dimitrios Kambouris, Getty Images)
Celebrity baby names | Owen Wilson and Jade Duell | Ford Wilson
They “just liked the name. Thought it was a good name, a very American-sounding name, and I don’t know a lot of kids named Ford so it seemed kind of original,” he told E!  (Frazer Harrison / Getty Images)
Celebrity baby names | Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard | Lincoln Bell Shepard
Bell revealed on “Ellen” that Lincoln has “always been Dax’s favorite name,” and it’s likely because he has a prized 1967 Lincoln Continental, not for their love of the 16th U.S. president. Shepard chose the girl’s name because “he is substantially bigger than I am, so I lost,” she said. (Wally Skalij / Los Angeles Times)

Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson
Parents: Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson

The singer and football player’s baby girl bears a typically double masculine name. Maxwell is Johnson’s middle name and his grandmother’s surname and the child’s middle name comes from Simpson’s maternal grandmother Tina, whose maiden name is Drew. Got that? But she’ll be called Maxi for short.  (Jamie McCarthy, Getty Images)

Previously known as #dembabies, son Moroccan is named after the top tier of Carey’s New York City apartment, called the Moroccan Room, while her daughter is named after Marilyn Monroe. The musician chose unlikely names for all his children. Here’s the rundown... Peaches Honeyblossom: Fruit, but not totally uncommon. Celebrity baby names | Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz | Bronx Mowgli Wentz
Per Wentz: “‘The Jungle Book’ is something me and Ashlee bonded over. It’s really cool... I feel weird, because all these people have all these ideas on what [Mowgli] means. I don’t think anyone knows the real story of why or how.” (Jay L. Clendenin / Los Angeles Times)
Celebrity baby names | George Foreman | George Foreman Jr., III, IV, V, VI and more...
The retired boxer has 12 kids, and though they have traditional names, it seems that he may have been confused by the whole Roman numeral thing, or at least thought repurposing it was a better approach. He has five sons, all named George Jr. through VI. Thankfully, they go by nicknames. (Ringo H.W. Chiu / For The Times)
Jermaine Jackson (C) and his sons Jermajesty Jackson and Jaafar Jackson
Parents: Jermaine Jackson and Alejandra Genevieve Oaziaza

Delusions of royalty must have run in the family and Jermajesty is just the tip of the Jackson family baby-naming iceberg. Apparently, Jackson has three children with Oaziaza, who also has three children with Randy Jackson, Jackson’s younger brother (but that’s another story). Jackson has eight kids in all, but the three with standout names come from his relationship with Oaziaza: Donte Randall (adopted), Jaafar Jeremiah and Jermajesty. Parents: Alicia Silverstone and Christopher Jarecki

The child of the “Clueless” actress and her rocker husband received his name as the result of a compromise and a suggestion by her mother-in-law. “We had narrowed our list to five boy names, and then we couldn’t really decide,” she told Us Weekly. “He suggested Bear or Blu, and I loved them both.”  (Michael Buckner, Getty Images for Conde Nast Medi)
