Doctor Who: On Christmas Eve in 1892, an icy menace is threatening the world, and a feisty young governess (Jenna-Louise Coleman) calls on the Doctor (Matt Smith) for help, but he’s mourning the loss of Amy and Rory and isn’t interested in getting involved, in the science fiction series’ new holiday episode (6 and 9 p.m. BBC America).

The Graham Norton Show: Dustin Hoffman, Billy Connolly, Jennifer Saunders and “Doctor Who’s” Matt Smith are guests on the variety series and Amy Macdonald performs (7:20 and 10:20 p.m. BBC America).

Rizzoli & Isles: Dr. Hope Martin (Sharon Lawrence) returns to ask Maura (Sasha Alexander) for a favor in the procedural drama’s season finale (9 p.m. TNT).

Leverage: The team embarks on its riskiest con yet when Nate (Timothy Hutton) takes a case linked to his son’s death in the season finale (10 p.m. TNT).

Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas: Boris Karloff voices the green meanie in this animated classic (8 p.m. ABC).

Breakfast Special 2: Revenge of the Omelets: Filmmaker Rick Sebak and his crew visit eateries around the country to sample traditional, regional and unusual breakfast fare and share in the camaraderie with the morning regulars (8 p.m. KOCE). Sebak’s original “Breakfast Special” airs at 7.

MOVIES

Superman: Clark Kent (Christopher Reeve) uses his superhuman powers to thwart Lex Luthor’s (Gene Hackman) plot to destroy the West Coast in director Richard Donner’s deft combination of big-screen comic book action and romantic comedy. Margot Kidder costars in this 1978 hit (7:30 p.m. Cinemax).
