Fall TV 2009: What we are (and are not) looking forward to

We don't know which was worse: The surly defensiveness radiating off the producers whenever anyone mentioned Mischa Barton's much-publicized hospitalization or Ashton Kutcher prattling about his vast modeling experience while sitting next to bona fide supermodel Elle Macpherson, who said maybe 4 1/2 words. Plus there was no explanation for the superfluous and exceedingly annoying ":TBL" that was tacked onto the show title without warning. Pass! -- Sarah Jersild, CW Source

'The Good Wife'

We weren’t particularly sold on this show until someone asked star Julianna Margulies about Patti Blagojevich -- and she reacted with horror: “[Rod Blagojevich] didn’t cheat on her, he cheated on everyone else. Then she went on some reality show. I mean, God!” And suddenly, we’re inclined to give the show a chance...

New talk shows

'Community'

If there’s one way to reel us in, it’s comparing “Community’s” fictional Greendale Community College to the “Charlie Brown Christmas” special. The show’s creator, Dan Harmon, said they’re alike in that “its ambition exceeds its grasp.” Awwww.

'Curb Your Enthusiasm'

Two words: “Seinfeld.” Reunion.

No, Larry David said, it won’t be a makeup for how that series ended, but it’ll be nice to see Jerry, Elaine, Kramer and George doing their shtick again. Especially in the confines of the “Curb” world.  (Anne Cusack / Los Angeles Times)

'Melrose Place'

They brought Sydney back from the dead -- literally -- and Mancini, now a parent to one of her lovers, is up to no good. Already, things are sounding better than the “90210” reboot, right?

Also a hopeful sign: Asked whether the new “Melrose” would lean to the earnest beginnings or insane endings of the original, executive producer Todd Slavkin said, “I can say it’s definitely the most scandalous address in West Hollywood.
