WIN-TV and the Windsor Historical Society continue to collect firsthand accounts for a documentary on the tornado that ravaged Windsor and surrounding communities on Oct. 3, 1979.
Windsor Tornado 1979

The 1945 Boeing B-29A Superfortress occupies it’s own hangar, the 58th Bomb Wing Memorial, at the New England Air Museum. Aquired in pieces in 1973, the big bomber was later extensively damaged during the 1979 tornado that hit the area of the old air museum. For the next 20 years, the old hulk of a plane sat in an outdoor display area and became home to many birds and animals. In 1999, the restoration began, using the fuselage of three planes. The restoration is nearly complete and the shiny B-29A sits proudly inside the pristine hangar. In photo, Brian Williams of Windsor shows the plane to his sons, Kisimi, 4, and Kwane, 7, during a school vacation trip to the museum.
