Katy Perry, Russell Brand buy compound in Sunset Strip area
Singer Katy Perry and comic actor Russell Brand have bought a Sunset Strip-area compound from former National Lampoon Chief Executive Daniel Laikin for $6.5 million, the Multiple Listing Service shows. Perry and Brand are in the process of selling their Los Feliz compound, a $3,395,000 listing that was on the market in May for just nine days before entering escrow.
The gated Mediterranean-style house they acquired was built in 1925 and sits on nearly 3 acres with a guesthouse and swimming pool. It features a baronial stone foyer with sweeping staircase, stained-glass windows and a carved fireplace mantel in the living room, a pub, a study and a media room. Including a four-room master suite, two guest suites and staff quarters, the house has seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms.
Perry, 26, is on a nine-month California Dreams tour, which follows her 2010 album, “Teenage Dream.” Brand, 36, starred in this year’s remake of “Arthur” and is filming “Rock of Ages,” to be released next year. The couple, who own another residence in New York, were married in October.
Laikin, a former home builder, was found guilty last year in federal court of manipulating the stock price of the comedy film company. He had bought the property in 2004 for $4.5 million. The compound came on the market in November at $7,995,000.
Barry Sloane of Sotheby’s International Realty, Beverly Hills, had the listing, and Ernie Carswell of Teles Properties, Beverly Hills, represented the buyers, according to the MLS.
Ready to jump at an offer
The Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Michael Balzary, known as Flea, has listed a newly built Malibu house for sale at $4,795,000.
Designed by Marmol Radziner, the contemporary indoor-outdoor home has a cement floor and ocean and canyon views. There are three bedrooms, three bathrooms and an office in more than 3,000 square feet. Outdoor amenities on the gated 2.4-acre site include a free-form swimming pool.
Flea, 48, is a founding member of the Grammy-winning band, which has released nine studio albums since it formed in 1983 and has sold more than 65 million copies worldwide. “I’m With You,” the group’s 10th album, is expected this summer.
He bought the original house on the site in 2002 for $2.55 million. It was burned in the 2007 Malibu fires, according to Times archives.

One less house, one new role
Update: Actor Ashton Kutcher has sold his Sunset Strip-area bachelor pad for $2.35 million.
The updated Craftsman features a home theater and a two-story wine tower that holds 210 bottles. The 3,235-square-foot house has four bedrooms and 41/2 bathrooms. It sits on nearly an acre with an infinity-edge pool and spa.
This fall, Kutcher, 33, will join the cast of “Two and a Half Men,” which fired star Charlie Sheen earlier this year. Kutcher starred on “That ‘70s Show” (1998-2006) and in the films “Killers” (2010) and “No Strings Attached” (2011).
He bought the house in 2004 for $1 million, rebuilt it but never moved in. Instead, Kutcher married actress Demi Moore in 2005.
Gary Gold of Hilton & Hyland, Beverly Hills, was the listing agent. Steve Sanders of Coldwell Banker’s Sunset Boulevard office represented the buyer.
Fans must tune in elsewhere
Soap star Ingo Rademacher has sold a Malibu home for $2,088,200.
The remodeled 1973 Mediterranean was designed for indoor-outdoor entertaining. Walls of glass and doors open onto a partially covered patio with a spa, built-in barbecue and dining area. The 2,700-square-foot house has four bedrooms and 21/2 bathrooms.
Rademacher, 40, plays corporate raider Jasper “Jax” Jacks on “General Hospital” (1996-present).
He bought the property in 2008 for $2,365,000, according to public records.

Wilshire Corridor perch is up for sale
A high-rise condominium owned by the late film star Jackie Cooper has come on the market on the Wilshire Corridor at $1.15 million.
The two-bedroom, 2 1/2-bathroom unit at the Mirabella has views from Bel-Air to downtown. Features include two terraces and a master bedroom suite with a sitting area and fireplace. There are 2,298 square feet of interior space.
Cooper, who died in May at 88, started acting as a child, starring in the 1931 films including “Skippy” and “The Champ.” He went on the perform on Broadway as an adult, then in television. He won two Emmys for directing in the ‘70s and played editor Perry White in the Christopher Reeve-starring “Superman” films.
Public records show the unit was purchased in 2001 for $950,000.

He’ll back kick and kick back
Mixed martial arts champion Anderson Silva, known as the Spider, has bought a home in Palos Verdes Estates for close to its $1.76-million asking price.
The ocean-view house of 3,000 square feet has four bedrooms and 31/2 bathrooms. The lot is more than half an acre and includes a swimming pool.
The 36-year-old Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight champ, who was renting in Redondo Beach, purchased the home to be closer to where he trains. He also owns homes in Rio de Janeiro and Curitiba, Brazil.
Eric Fonoimoana, a 2000 Olympics beach volleyball gold medalist and now an agent with South Bay Brokers, represented Silva. Teri Hawkins, Coldwell Banker, Manhattan Beach, was the listing agent.
