Herman Miller colorizes an Eames classic
In honor of what would have been Ray Eames’ 100th birthday this year, manufacturer Herman Miller is releasing the Eames Wire Base Low Table in three new colors.
At 10 inches high and 15 inches wide, the low table has been one of Charles and Ray Eames’ most versatile (and affordable) pieces since it was introduced in 1950. It’s easy to imagine the Eameses using the compact table to serve Japanese tea, or someone today stacking multiples for use as a resting place for a phone, keys and iPad.
On Oct. 1 Herman Miller will release the table in cobalt blue, red-orange and a golden yellow, the same colors used on the exterior panels of the Eames House, the Pacific Palisades landmark also known as Case Study House No. 8. Herman Miller will take orders for the limited edition run, called the 2012 Select Program, until March 31.
The tables, regularly about $200 in standard colors, will sell for $294 each as limited editions.
