After receiving a letter from Glendale Water & Power that informed him he was one of the heaviest water users in the city, Glendale resident Bill Metzdorf found that watering his 3,000-square-foot yard three times a week “worked out to about 850 gallons per day,” he said. So, he and his wife, Monica, removed their green lawn, replaced it with decompposed grantite and added California native, drought-tolerant plants. Now, his home’s water usage has dropped to about 200 gallons a day.
